1828 Satisfaction from Supreme Court of Ulster County NY regarding the President, Directors and Company of the Middle District Bank, plaintiffs and Caleb Merritt, defendant in the amount of One Hundred and Fifty-Eight Dollars and Ninety-Seven Cents, Ruggles & Hasbrouck, Attys.. Judgement was entered in the August term of 1826.Charles Ruggles and Abraham Bruyn Hasbrouck were law partners in Kingston NY until 1831. Hasbrouck was a U.S. Congressman and later became president of Rutgers College; Ruggles became Ulster County District Attorney and later Chief Judge of the Court of Appeals.
In 1828 Hasbrouck employed a domestic worker named Isabella, later known as Sojourner Truth. Ruggles & Hasbrouck were among those who helped the former slave gain the freedom of her son from Alabama.
