    Description

9.2 inches in diameter. Dated 1920 in Hebrew on the rim. Extremely heavy for it's size, you can't tell from the photos but the brass dish itself seems to be a "double layer", it is a very, very thick tray. Coupled with the large amounts of silver and copper inlay and you will be surprised just how heavy this is when you hold it in your hands. Incredible workmanship. The rim has various sayings related to the holiday of Rosh Hashonah, and the center depicts a pair of shofars intertwined with a menorah and the Ten Commandments. There are a few gem-colored paste stones left in the many deliberate hole-shaped depressions featured throughout the dish. I have never heard of, nor seen any Damascene item, made by Bezalel or otherwise, indicating a use for Rosh Hashonah --- I'm guessing this dish would be for the apple and jar of honey.
