    Description

Offered is this antique guardian bond document from Floyd County, Georgia, dated September 3, 1864, during the Civil War. The document records a 00 bond in reference to the guardianship of an orphan, Martha Ware, daughter of William Ware. Another Martha Ware (different middle initial) and Joseph Ford appear to be the ones who are putting up the bond. Interestingly, the document bears 12 documentary stamps of several denominations and types, totaling one dollar in value, all hand-cancelled in 1866 after the end of the war. The usual county clerk information is on the back.
The document measures approx. 8 3/8" x 6 1/4". It is in very good condition for its age. I see no holes or tears, but it is heavily creased on the fold line. The writing is light in some areas and somewhat hard to read in those places.
