    Description

This listing is for an Antique Blue & White Earthenware Tepper Passover "Matzah" Plate that measures 9 7/8" across and was made in London, England This plate dates to the 1920s. The word Matzoh (or matzah) is featured in Hebrew in large letters in the center of the plate. This could be used as one of the dinner plates at your next Passover Seder.
On the front of this beautiful plate are pictured several different scenes from the Passover Haggadah and story of the Jews escaping from Egypt. The Four Questions are listed in Hebrew. In English it says: "Why is this night different from all other nights" in Hebrew,  and "The Wise Sons", "Rabbi Elazar The Son of Azarlah", "These Unleavened Cakes Why Do We Eat", "We Therefore Give Thanks to Him", "With a Strong Hand", "Between the Parts", and "
    And the Egyptians Illtreated Us".
It is marked on the back "
BARDIGER LONDON MANUFACTURED BY RIDGWAYS ENGLAND REG NO. 699856" and "TEPPER LONDON". Imprinted on the back of the plate are the numbers 10 & 2. Bardiger refers to the Ukrainian immigrant Solomon Bardiger who opened a china shop at 180 Brick Lane in Bethnal Green, London. Tepper refers to a Max Tepper who may also have been a Ukrainian immigrant with his own shop but I haven't been able to discover any information about him. This design was registered in 1923.
