Antique handmade large silver metal snake bracelets, Ethiopia lot of 2 JE017

Description

Early 20th century double headed snake bracelets from Southern Ethiopia. The bracelets are lightweight and hand made from aluminium, which was once considered a very precious material. They have a minimalist, almost industrial aesthetic that doesn't appear very often in African antiques. This lot of two are a larger size, possibly men's.
These snake bracelets were originally stamped with a decorative pattern but this one has been worn almost completely smooth through many decades of use, good condition given its age and origin. The bangles are unisex and look wonderful worn stacked. The metal is rigid and cannot be opened. The snake bracelets are increasingly difficult to source and each piece is unique.
