Description
This is a RARE bloodletting instrument. It's a Baunscheidt's Lebenswecker (1850-1900).The long handle of the hollow tube contained a coiled spring which, when pushed,
punctured the skin with 30 sharp needles. This device was primarily used as a
counter-irritant. According to medical theory of the time, by producing a new inflammation,
the blood was sidetracked from diseased areas. It is 11" long in original box.
It is marked J. LINDEN, CLEVELAND, O. Now for some fun information!

My husband passed away a few years back and this is from his collection. I'm trying
to add a few each week to ebay, but I've said that before. Thank you.
