    Description

GABRIEL DUVALL, early Supreme Court Justice, SIGNED envelope.
Nominated to the Supreme Court by President James Madison, Duvall served from 1811-1835.
He is famous today for being arguably the “most insignificant” Supreme Court Justice in history, as posited in famous (and highly amusing) law review articles by David Currie and Judge Frank Easterbrook.
In his day, however, Duvall (1752-1844) was a person of note, having fought in the Revolutionary War, served in the Maryland House of Delegates, and served as a U.S. representative for Maryland.
A great gift for the constitutional scholar in your life!
