    Project info:
    Adornment of man
The ornament of the body is very important in many African cultures. As diverse as the cultures of Africa, as diverse as the jewelry of the people. Strong colors are often particularly popular. These necklaces are made by a San (Bushman) community in the Namibian Kalahari. This community, traditionally pure gatherers and hunters, has been provided with former farmland on which they now live. The 300 San from the Heikum clan jointly cultivate land for food and create handicrafts such as these jewelry to generate additional income. Supervised by a foundation, large parts of the income generated by this flow into community projects, such as the expansion and maintenance of a primary school - including a salary for three teachers -, a kindergarten, a training workshop and a hospital ward, and also serve to finance school attendance for the San- Children in secondary schools in the wider area.
