    Description

LOVELY 1/6 PLATE AMBROTYPE - LADY IN STUNNING DRESS - IN NICE THERMOPLASTIC CASE -
I must say, the woman in this gorgeous sixth plate definitely knew how to adorn herself. The sheer lace covering her shoulderless dress and quality of jewelry she accessorized her ensemble with was carefully thought out. Her dress reminds me of one worn by the famous opera star, Jenny Lind and she has a very uncanny resemblance to Mary Todd Lincoln, don't you agree? Warm hand tinting was applied to her face and the tablecloth beside her. Her lovely likeness resides in a chocolate toned thermoplastic case with a basket of flower motif. A truly beautiful cased ambrotype is what you are considering in my listing. Good luck to the winner.

Please view my detailed photos for the actual condition of the image and as part of my description. This sixth plate contains excellent contrast, tonal range and superb sharpness. The image has some nice hand tinting added to complete her portrait. The thermoplastic case has one tiny crack running the entire length of the edge, but it is stable and hard to see without looking closely. There are a few hairlines at the hinge and clasp as well. The interior has a beautiful velvet pillow. The hinges remain tight and the clasp in fine working condition. Overall, a wonderful cased hard plate for any collection.
