These Vira Raya type fanams are found generally in the extreme South India and in Sri Lanka. The location of the mint where these were struck is unknown, but it is likely that they were struck on the mainland and imported to Sri Lanka through trade, though the possibility that this type was minted by the Rajas of Kotte Kingdom in Sri Lanka in the 1400's cannot be discounted (the heavy weight of these pieces is probably indicative of an early date).
