You will have to do the following: Mount SOLAR PANEL(S) securely in a South Facing location with a clear view of the Sun at about a 30 degree angle and mount securely. The panel is glass and you don't want it to blow over and break in the wind. Aiming the panel is easy as you can hear the air pump running faster as you point at the most efficient angle toward the sun. Mount the pump in a semi' sheltered area (some type of "roof" over the top of the pump is ideal) to keep rain/snow/sun etc. from direct contact. You can mount the air pump indoors somewhere if you choose but this is Not necessary. We've found the simplest and best location is at the back side of the solar panel and simply provided with a small angled roof (tin, wood, etc.) over the top to provide some shelter.
Pump & Solar Panel styles may vary from those shown. Due to recent price Reductions we are now using the
high performance monocrystalline panels
for all of our Solar Aerarator systems at no extra cost!
A word about sizing: Actually, we have many customers using some of our smaller system in ponds
3/4 acre to 1 acre in size and even larger
..with satisfactory results. Certainly more aeration is better but the
MAIN RULE OF THUMB IS THIS:
"
ANY AERATION IS MUCH, MUCH BETTER THAN NONE AT ALL
!"
Buy what your budget allows now, the bigger systems will have more power to get ahead of water quality & aquatic nuisance plant problems quicker and stay ahead of problems better down the road. Another option is to start smaller and after seeing the benefits of what your system is doing for Your Pond - You can always add more aeration later too.

A bit more on the drawbacks & options available for Solar Power...
These systems are designed to be as Affordable as possible, yet still deliver performance worthwhile for your pond. This solar panel is slightly over-rated just to the point of allowing your system to operate during many average "semi-cloudy" days. Output WILL drop during cloudy conditions, but WILL typically continue to operate, expecially with system #2 (which uses larger oversize panels).
The output will vary from a maximum in bright sunlite. Less during dusk and dawn and cloudy periods AND will stop running during the night, ready to resume the following daybreak. (unless you add additional panel, battery & a charge controller box -
Please contact us for details).
So, YES SOLAR Electricity is cool and in some lake/pond locations may be your best choice! It's FREE and typically long lived (photovoltaic panels typically last 20+ years in service). Also, not getting an electric bill is awesome too.
BUT BEFORE YOU BUY A SOLAR POWERED SYSTEM PLEASE READ BELOW:
"DEFINATE DRAWBACKS TO SOLAR" -
1. Solar doesn't work at night without added expense of storage batteries and usually another (or more) panels.
2. Solar puts out DC electricity. AC power can be made with the extra expense of a Power Inverter (also decreases your efficiency, as the inverter uses power to operate).
3. DC powered electric motors are typically Not as long lived AND are More Expensive than similar sized AC electric motors.
4. Up front costs of installing solar vs. regular AC "plug in" system (for same output) is at least Double!
This covers what we feel are the major points with solar power. If you're still interested after reading this then perhaps a SOLAR SYTEM is the RIGHT Application for your needs. Try to find a system priced anywhere near Our Price that isn't some kind of cheap "plastic toy". You'll probably spend double to triple (OR MORE) anywhere else. This is a commercial duty continuous run system with QUALITY components. This system is meant to provide years of use.
TO BE HONEST THE BEST RULE OF THUMB IS:
If You have AC power available nearby and can connect to it for a few hundred dollars or less cost.......
USE IT!
(As you will get more Aeration for your dollars spent). IF YOU DO
NOT
HAVE AC POWER available or without incurring SUBSTANTIAL COSTS - then SOLAR POWER may be a good choice for you!
