The Thorpy FX Fat General is an astonishing studio-grade, optical, parallel compressor.
An evolution of the critically acclaimed OTC-201 compressor, ThorpyFx and the original designer (Dan Coggins) have collaborated to deliver the next level of compression for guitarists. Unlike many other compressors, the FAT GENERAL adds sustain and balance to your signal without unnecessary noise or signal "pumping".
It has two switchable settings, Blend mode, and Juicy mode. The Blend mode is a split of dry with the compressed signal. The Blend knob takes the signal from 100% dry at fully counter-clockwise to a parallel mix of dry and compressed.
In Juicy mode, the signal is fully compressed where the Blend knob acts as a volume control. In both modes, the Sustain knob makes the signal more fully or subtly compressed. There is also a powerful treble control which enables you to fit the pedal to your rig no matter what guitar/amp combo you're using.
You'll also notice that the FAT GENERAL can be particularly transparent but with a sparkle and clarity that you were missing before. For me it has become an always-on pedal, I can't play without it!
External enclosure made from powder-coated steel wraparound and a stainless steel laser-cut center piece. Internally the pedal is immaculately built using premium 1% metalfilm resistors, Wima and Panasonic capacitors, Neutrik jacks and a Burr-Brown Opamp. Coupled with a robust gold plated PCB and dust sealed Alpha potentiometers. A mechanical footswitch is used to turn the pedal on and is powered using a 9V center negative power supply.
