Description

Thir pair of Vintage UTICA TOOLS BX100, BX Conduit Electricians Pliers was  PAT. 1934, USA Patent No.1970983.  They are in excellent condition.  They do have one spot on each side of the cutting jaws where it appears that someone tried  to cut wire that was too hard for the pliers. There is no rust and no pitting.  There are not any previous owner's names or ID markings and we have not cleaned or refurbished these in any manner, as we leave those decisions up to the eventual buyer.
These pliers are very clean and the stampings are all sharp and easy to read.  Stamped on the front side of the top face of the  pliers is "UTICA TOOLS BX100    UTICA N.Y. U.S.A."
Stamped on the front side of the bottom  face of the  pliers is
"S.P.A.C." inside an oval.  According to Alloy Artifacts: "
The cryptic notation "S.P.A.C." on the pliers is actually a reference to the inventor, as these were also known as "Smith's Pocket Armor Cutters".
The bottom face of the back side of the pliers is stamped "PAT. 1934     U.S.A. No 1970983".  According to Mr. Smith's patent these pliers "are designed to cut and form either end of a piece of B-X Conduit with ease and a minimum amount of skill
so that appropriate fittings my be properly attached to both ends of the conduit..  A second object of this tool the elimination of all danger of abraiding the insulated wires contained within the conduit during the cutting operation."
