    Description

Stunning antique Moroccan Berber Qur'an holder decorated
with turquoise and coral - So, these have
always been attributed to the Moslem religion however on this Holy book carrier, there seems to be two Jewish letters engraved on the top back panel of the lid portion.  I read Arabic so I know this is not Arabic and it looks to be
Hebrew ... And the silver "star/flower" embellishment in the back has six large petals (which is often used in Jewish traditional jewelry) instead of the traditional 8 petaled or pointed symbol used in Islam.
The lid has some pentagrams stamped into the sides... So I am confused as to which Holy book was carried in this lovely box  ~ The workmanship is wonderful and the design powerful, very reminiscent of
Tibet/Nepal design... It looks like a Tibetan double Dorje (Double lightening bolts) in the front ! I was told this is 19th C ~ It is a bit longer than 6" top to bottom.  It is brass and has silver and maybe copper detailing.
